June Lesson - Coffee Art ( Part 1 Coffee Painting )

Painting is often associated with the use of acrylic, oil and watercolor. But today, we're going to use a new material – coffee. Coffee painting is popular nowadays and the result is unique plus the aroma of the art work. In fact, there are artists who specialize in using coffee for painting. 
  • Pornchai Lerthammasiri  - Thai artist well known for his coffee paintings.15 years ago, however, he felt the need for more challenge in his work the reason why he ventured into using coffee for a change. 
  • Hong Yi, Malaysian artist, uses the bottom of an espresso cup in her painting. Known as Red in the art world, she is famous for her coffee painting .

  • Learn about the basic knowledge of coffee bean, where the coffee beans are grown and the different levels of coffee roast.
  • Grind coffee beans and brew coffee for painting.
  • Introduce Artists who using coffee in their artworks.


Step

  1. Draw the outline - Who you want to give the postcard?What design the recipient might like to have?
  2. Colour the drawing with liquid coffee - Utilize different concentration of coffee to create tones of your painting, you need to use watercolour techniques like wet on wet and wet on dry.

Homemade paper is easy to make and beautiful, today we're going to make a coffee scented handmade paper! Once you have made the paper they could make great cards or drawing papers. Material Coffee Powder  Mold ( wooden stick and plastic needle point canvas)  Basin/ Bucket  Recycled Paper, Card box  Paper Towel Wiping Cloth  Iron  Elements & principles Texture  Introductory Activities Introduce material and process of making coffee scented handmade paper . Divide students into pairs. Step 1. Prepare the mold - Make 2 simple same size frames with wood sticks .Cut a piece of plastic needlepoint canvas and staple it to one of the wood frames  2.Prepare Shredded paper - You can use many kinds of scrap paper for making the basic paper pulp, Cut paper into thin strips and then place the pieces into water . 3.
